Christmas Book Haul

Hello, I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas yesterday! I had such a lovely day, and I feel very fortunate that I still live with my immediate family, so we were able to spend the day together. I was very spoilt this year and I feel so lucky! As well as a beautiful necklace and other incredible things, I was gifted some books too so I thought I would do a little Christmas book haul.

The Voting Booth by Brandy Colbert

No description available.

Marva Sheridan was born ready for this day. She’s always been driven to make a difference in the world, and what better way than to vote in her first election?

Duke Crenshaw is so done with this election. He just wants to get voting over with so he can prepare for his band’s first paying gig tonight. Only problem? Duke can’t vote.

When Marva sees Duke turned away from their polling place, she takes it upon herself to make sure his vote is counted. She hasn’t spent months doorbelling and registering voters just to see someone denied their right. And that’s how their whirlwind day begins, rushing from precinct to precinct, cutting school, waiting in endless lines, turned away time and again, trying to do one simple thing: vote. They may have started out as strangers, but as Duke and Marva team up to beat a rigged system (and find Marva’s missing cat), it’s clear that there’s more to their connection than a shared mission for democracy.

Romantic and triumphant, The Voting Booth is proof that you can’t sit around waiting for the world to change, but some things are just meant to be.

I’ve spoken quite a bit recently about how much I loved Brandy Colbert’s Little & Lion and how much I really wanted to read The Voting Booth. My secret Santa got me this book! I am so excited to read it in the new year.

Meet Pepper, swim team captain, chronic overachiever, and all-around perfectionist. Her family may be falling apart, but their massive fast-food chain is booming ― mainly thanks to Pepper, who is barely managing to juggle real life while secretly running Big League Burger’s massive Twitter account.

Enter Jack, class clown and constant thorn in Pepper’s side. When he isn’t trying to duck out of his obscenely popular twin’s shadow, he’s busy working in his family’s deli. His relationship with the business that holds his future might be love/hate, but when Big League Burger steals his grandma’s iconic grilled cheese recipe, he’ll do whatever it takes to take them down, one tweet at a time.

All’s fair in love and cheese ― that is, until Pepper and Jack’s spat turns into a viral Twitter war. Little do they know, while they’re publicly duking it out with snarky memes and retweet battles, they’re also falling for each other in real life ― on an anonymous chat app Jack built.

As their relationship deepens and their online shenanigans escalate ― people on the internet are shipping them?? ― their battle gets more and more personal, until even these two rivals can’t ignore they were destined for the most unexpected, awkward, all-the-feels romance that neither of them expected.

Another one of my most anticipated! My sister’s boyfriend got me a copy of Tweet Cute by Emma Lord. I am hopefully going to read it before her newest book comes out in January!

These next three books were from my parents – my mum always lets me choose the books I get for Christmas, so I have known about these for a while! I wasn’t allowed them until Christmas day though, so I am so happy to finally be able to read them.

All This Time by Mikki Daughtry and Rachael Lippincott

No description available.

Kyle and Kimberly have been the perfect couple all through high school, but when Kimberly breaks up with him on the night of their graduation party, Kyle’s entire world upends—literally. Their car crashes and when he awakes, he has a brain injury. Kimberly is dead. And no one in his life could possibly understand.

Until Marley. Marley is suffering from her own loss, a loss she thinks was her fault. And when their paths cross, Kyle sees in her all the unspoken things he’s feeling.

As Kyle and Marley work to heal each other’s wounds, their feelings for each other grow stronger. But Kyle can’t shake the sense that he’s headed for another crashing moment that will blow up his life as soon as he’s started to put it back together.

And he’s right.

Since I read Five Feet Apart, I have wanted to read some more from this author duo. I can’t wait to get stuck into it.

The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi

No description available.

The enduring children’s tale The Adventures of Pinocchio, retold for a new generation in this spectacular full-color deluxe gift edition, packed with beautiful artwork and seven interactive features created by the award-winning design studio behind the graphics for the Harry Potter film franchise, MinaLima.

Originally published in 1883, The Adventures of Pinocchio is one of the best known and beloved children’s classics. Written by Italian political satirist Carlo Collodi, it is the story of Geppetto, a poor puppeteer who uses an enchanted piece of wood to carve a marionette boy he calls Pinocchio.

The impish Pinocchio does not want to be a puppet; he yearns to become a real boy. Soon, his curiosity, mischievousness, and naivete lead him away from his father’s shop and into a series of perilous encounters with vicious puppet masters, cunning animals, and other magical characters. Along this perilous journey, the magical puppet learns how much turmoil, heart, and hard work it takes to become a “real boy.” With a nose that grows larger with each lie he tells, Pinocchio has become an enduring icon in children’s literature, and now his story is brilliantly reimagined in this stunning gift edition.

The Adventures of Pinocchio includes specially commissioned artwork and exclusive interactive features, including:

A Pinocchio puppet with clothing
Additional finger puppets
A small theatre for a puppet show
A court deck with Pinocchio behind sliding bars
A fold out shark revealing Pinocchio and Geppetto inside
This wondrous edition will enchant readers of every age an become a treasured keepsake passed down for generations.

I have never read The Adventures of Pinocchio, but I knew I had to get the MinaLima edition. I love the MinaLima editions of children classics and I can’t wait to see what they come out with in the future.

The Little Mermaid and Other Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen

Nearly two hundred years after its publication in 1837, Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless fairytales continue to inspire young imaginations. This beautiful unabridged edition brings together many of the Danish writer’s favorite stories that have become literary classics, including “The Little Mermaid”, “Thumbelina”, “The Snow Queen”, “The Princess and the Pea”, “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, and more.

The thirteen stories in The Little Mermaid and Other Fairy Tales are illustrated with specially commissioned artwork and ten exclusive interactive features including:

A dial with six mermaids
A Duckling transforming into a swan
Mattresses that pull away to reveal a pea
The Snow Queen’s palace

Gorgeously designed, this keepsake illustrated edition—the fourth book in Harper Design’s series of reimagined children’s classics—will be treasured by readers of all ages for generations to come.

Another MinaLima edition and one I have been trying to get my hands on for the longest time! I loved Hans Christian Andersen when I was younger, so finally having the MinaLima edition is incredibly exciting for me. I can’t wait to read all of the stories.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Did you get any books for Christmas?

I love them so much! I have them all now🙈 I don’t have the Harry Potter one, but I’m not really interested in that one so I won’t be getting it. I’m hoping they come out with some more children ones!

Welcome to my cosy corner of the internet dedicated to anything book-ish related. I am an avid reader, who is constantly battling a reading slump. On here, I share my chaotic, rambling thoughts of all of the books I have read and want to read, offering my unsolicited thoughts. Occasionally, I will share my own work whether that is my poetry or progress updates as I write my own Fantasy novels.
