Hello! Today I am doing another Top Ten Tuesday which was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.
Todays topic is how my reading habits have changed over time and I have to say that I thought this was going to be a lot easier than it was! I struggled thinking of so much, but its so interesting to see what has changed over time.
– I used to only read Young Adult books, and now its very much shifted into reading adult.
– I used to only either read YA fantasy or YA contemporary, and now I am open to reading more genres and experimenting a little more
– I never used to DNF books, and now I am more than happy to put a book down if it is not working for me at that time. Sometimes, I am a little too quick to DNF a book, but I do also believe that timing is a key thing. I can pick up a book and really dislike it, put it down, and then in a few months or even a year, read it again and really enjoy it.
– When I was younger, I would read 90% of books on my Kindle, and then I shifted into just reading physical copies, then I shifted into reading 90% of books on audiobook. Now I have a balance of all three going, so I expect this to shift again!
– I didn’t like rereading books before. I always felt like that time could be used to read new books. This has drastically changed, and I reread a lot now! I love the comfort than a book you’ve read multiple times can bring. I reread so much now that I have previously done posts dedicated to it at the end of the year as part of a wrap up. (2020 & 2021)
– I was never interested in non-fiction books and this year, I have read so many – more than I thought I ever would.
– I always focused on reading the backlog of books instead of newer releases. Now I am the complete opposite and the new releases make up the majority of my wrap ups.
– I have learned that TBRs just do not work for me. I used to always make long lists and try to strictly stick to them, but I would always end up in a reading slump. Now, I tend to think of books based on the season, and have a list of books I could read, but its not strict, so if I don’t feel like reading that book, then I do not need to read it.
– I unhaul books now and sell them on Vinted. I never used to be able to get rid of any of my books, but I have realised that there is no point holding onto that YA book that I am just never going to read or keeping that book series that I really did not like – the space on my shelves can be used for books I enjoy more!
– And lastly, I don’t tend to binge read a series anymore. When I was younger, I would devour huge series, one book after another within a few days to a week. I don’t tend to have the time anymore to do nothing but read lengthy series. The last time I did was with the Throne of Glass books during the third lockdown! This is something I miss, and I’m envious of my younger self for!
