The 2021 Releases That I Wish I Got To

Hello! Today I wanted to talk to some 2021 releases that I wish that I got to. I have been making an effort over the last couple of years to read more books the year that they come out. 2021 has been my most successful year so far! I have read 14 books that came out in 2021 so far this year! I am hoping to get to a couple more before the year is out, but that is still exciting! With that being said, however, there are still so many 2021 releases that I wish I had read.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

I have been seeing The Love Hypothesis everywhere. It is probably one of the most hyped books of this year. And I haven’t gotten to it! I don’t even have a copy of the novel yet. I can’t see myself reading this one any time soon, but I think this is going to be one that I read in the summer of next year.

White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson in September (I think). I was hoping to read it for Halloween or around that time, as that would have been the perfect mood to. I am a huge mood reader and I really want to save it now until that time of year rolls around again next year. I am itching to read it, but I think I will enjoy it so much more during that season than I would at this time of the year. That is just a weird me thing though!

If You, Then Me by Yvonne Woon

When I was younger, I was a big fan of Yvonne Woon – particularly the Dead Beautiful series. It was the first fantasy book that I had ever read, and the first series that I actually kept up with – although there were years between the first and the last book, despite it only being a trilogy. It was one of my favourites, and even made it onto my 24 Book I Love post. I thought it was included on my Book Series I Loved… But Won’t Reread post from a couple of years ago, but it doesn’t seem to be included, it has me thinking that I might reread them and do an entry for The Reread Diaries for each of them in the new year – would that be something you’re interested in? Anyway, when I saw that Yvonne Woon had a romance novel coming out, I wanted to read it so bad, but I honestly have completely forgotten about it until now. Hopefully this will be one for the new year.

Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen

Skin of the Sea is one that I need to get my hands on quickly. It sounds so good, and I am so excited for it. The story sounds fascinating and I am dying to get a copy. I love mermaids and have been looking for more books that involve them, so this jut sounds perfect. This could be the one I close off the year with or it could be one that I start next year with – depending on whether I can get me hands on a copy!

Gilded by Marissa Meyer

Are we surprised that my most anticipated book of the year, the one that I have not been able to stop talking about, is on this list? No? Oh. Honestly, the only reason I have not read this one yet is because I cannot get hold of a hardback edition of this book! I want my Marissa Meyer books to match and right now I am finding it difficult to find the hardcover edition in the UK. So if anyone knows where I can find this, please, please, please let me know!

This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron

Similarly to Gilded, I am waiting until I can get a hold of a hardcover edition so that my copy can match the copy that I have of Cinderella is Dead. The more I read the synopsis and reviews and hear people’s thoughts about this book, the more I want to read it! But I am holding off until I can get a matching cover!

The Yearbook by Holly Bourne

Last year, I read It Only Happens in the Movies by Holly Bourne, and I liked it enough that I wanted to read more from Holly Bourne. I thought for sure that 2021 would be the year that I made my way through their backlog. But, honestly, I have just completely forgotten about them. Every time I would see The Yearbook on my shelves, I would always pass by it in favour of another book. I am sure that I will eventually get to the novel, but I do not know when that is going to be!

You Have a Match by Emma Lord

This is another one that I think I am going to put off further until the Spring or Summer of next year. I really loved Emma Lord’s other novel Tweet Cute when I read it back in March. I really enjoyed their writing style and I can’t wait to read more of their work. Their third novel is coming out in 2022 and I will probably (hopefully) read them around the same time!

Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare

A Cassandra Clare book that I haven’t read the year of its release… I don’t know what has happened with this one! I reread Chain of Gold in preparation for the release, and I finished it just as my copy of Chain of Iron arrived, but I don’t know why I didn’t get to it! I think it was around the time I went into a bit of a reading slump, so it just kept getting put off.

Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer

I really thought that this would be the year that I would read the Cursebreakers by Brigid Kemmerer’s other novels too, but it didn’t work out that way for me! I just never got round to it. So, I thought it is a new series, I like the sound of it, Defy the Night, is one I will definitely get to! Wrong. I did not. I did not get a copy or anything, so my introduction to Brigid Kemmerer is being postponed for another year, yet again.

The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer

I thought that The Matzah Ball was going to be one of the reviews I posted early on during Blogmas, however, I didn’t read it in time and obviously couldn’t get the review up. I don’t think I will have time to get to this one now, so I am going to save it for next year and hopefully I will be a bit more organised for Blogmas and with my reviews!

I am going to include a couple more books, even though my main list is over. These are the 2021 releases that I want to finish before the year is up:

  • Ariadne by Jennifer Saint – I started this one back in August or September and I really want to finish it before the year is out. I have loved what I have read so far and I really want to continue it!
  • Malice by Heather Walter – This one has been on all of my TBRs since the beginning of the year, even as recent as my post at the end of November: Five Books I Haven’t Read Yet in 2021. However, I have now started this one! I am only three chapters in so far, and I am trying to read it in a physical format (I have been struggling with this format for a couple of years now, because I get distracted by too many things to focus), but I really, really, really want to push through and have this one finished by the end of the year!
  • Midnight in Everwood by M.A. Kuzniar – I want to have a review of this go up on the blog as part of Blogmas, so I have got to get a move on and read this one ASAP!

I feel like there were so many more books that I could have included on this extensive list, but I will leave it at that for now! What are some 2021 releases that you didn’t manage to read this year?

  1. I’m not gonna read The Love Hypothesis but I support you whenever you do! I really wanna get to Little Thieves, but that’ll probably be only next year 😭 And about another hundred books πŸ˜† I really enjoyed Marissa Meyer’s book, Heartless, so I definitely want to read that! And eventually The Luner Chronicles!

      1. They are beautiful! But, no – I got the original covers, because I am a sucker for a hardback edition and I couldn’t find the new covers in hardback!

      2. Yes! One of the things I reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly want to do in 2022, is start buying those beautiful dust jacket covers that people on Etsy make. They’re like fan art for the book but they are so stunning and that just reminded me how much I want them all. I am definitely checking to see if there are any for The Lunar Chronicles.

      1. Oh mostly because it’s published Reylo (star wars) fanfiction and I dislike Kylo Ren with a passion πŸ˜† and I’ve seen some negative reviews as well that really explain it well so I don’t have a lot of motivation for the book.

      2. Oh that is fair! I haven’t seen any negative reviews yet, so I am definitely going to go through the review tags in a moment! I am not a huge fan of star wars (I struggle focusing on films and those films are quite intimidating lol) so I am not sure if that aspect is going to affect me? I will definitely be looking more into the reviews though! I still think I will read the book because my interest has definitely been piqued because *everyone* is talking about it right now
