Hello! Today I am taking part in another Top 5 Tuesday. Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, but now it is hosted by Meeghan at Meeghan Reads. Today’s topic is books I haven’t yet read in 2021. The year is coming to a close, and there are still so many books that I have no gotten to in 2021 that I really wanted to.
I have been hit with quite a few reading slumps this year, and this has obviously impacted how much I have read this year. At the start of the year, I had so many books that I highly anticipated, and even though I now have them on my shelves, they still remain unread. Here are some of the books that I would love to get to by the end of the year.
Malice by Heather Walter
Malice by Heather Walter was my most anticipated book for 2021, and I hate that I still have no read it. I love retellings and Malice is a Sleeping Beauty retelling told from the perspective of the villain. It also has LGBTQ+ representation which isn’t often the case in retellings which is also very exciting. This is one book that I have to get this by the end of the year.
Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart
Witches Steeped in Gold is a book that I had not heard of, until I read about it on someone’s blog (I can’t remember which one), but as soon as I heard about it, I immediately preordered it. And then a month or two later, it arrived and guess what – it has stayed on my shelf ever since. I was hoping to read it around Halloween, but I ended up not getting to it, so that was a little disappointing. I am hoping that when the Christmas lights go up in my house, that the comforting surroundings will help me gravitate towards this book. That probably makes no sense to anybody, but for some reason, Christmas lights and decorations really makes me gravitate towards fantasy books.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
I mention The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue multiple times to a colleague at work, and tell her how incredible the story sounds. And yet I still have not read it. It sounds like such a unique and interesting story that I do want to read. I am hoping my theory with the Christmas lights work with this book to.
Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas
I am a big fan of Angie Thomas and her other novels, and I am really excited about reading her latest novel. I am really struggling with reading young adult at the moment, and I know this is a YA novel, so I don’t want to read it when I am not in the mood for YA, because I feel like this will impact my opinion. I should also emphasise that it is more YA contemporary that I am not in the mood for – I feel like I can get on better with YA fantasy than contemporary right now.
These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
I honestly still cannot believe that I have not read this one. It is such a hyped series and I see it all of the time on Twitter and Instagram and other people’s blogs too. It is actually quite ridiculous that I have not yet found the time to read this. Will I read it before the end of 2021? Honestly, who knows!
Please let me know what books you want to get to by the end of the year!
