Hello! Today I am taking part in another Top 5 Tuesday. Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, but now it is hosted by Meeghan at Meeghan Reads. Today’s topic is favourite standalone of all time. Last week was favourite series, and I feel like I read more series than standalone novels, so I think this one is going to be a little difficult for me today.

The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary

Of course, this book was going to be included on this list! I haven’t been able to stop talking about it since I read it in June. I read it one sitting, I fell in love with France (where it is partly set), I fell in love with the character, and I fell in love with the idea of a road trip – so much in fact me and my sisters did our own road trip to Scotland in August!

 

Under Rose Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall

I read this one quite some time ago, and I still think about this book all the time. The novel has anxiety, OCD and agoraphobia. I have OCD and anxiety, and the representation really represented my experiences with the mental illnesses and helped me feel less alone back when I was finding out and learning about my diagnosis.

 

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

I don’t really talk about this book often, however, I consider this book to be my favourite of all time. It is the first book that I remember falling in love with and absolutely adored the story telling. I didn’t have a copy for a very long time – I only managed to get a copy last year. However, I read this book a very long time ago, and part of me is scared to reread it in case it cannot live up to my expectations of being my favourite book of all time.

 

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

I spoke a little bit about this book in my post 24 books I love. I have a skin picking disorder that is part of my OCD, and Turtles all the Way Down was the first I had seen a bit of representation in fiction. I talk a lot about the representation, but I do really love the story too! I think that the mystery and goal for the money reward was such a fun backdrop.

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

The Poet X was such a unique read for me. I’ve read so many poetry books, but I’ve never read a young adult novel written in verse. It’s a novel about a character, Xiomara, who uses slam poetry to explore and understand her mother’s religion.
