Books I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time

Hello! Today I am taking part in this weeks Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. This weeks topic is books that I wish I could read again for the first time.

I am a huge rereader, and often will like the reread better than when I read them the first time. However, there are some books that I wish I could read for the first time, so let’s get into them.

The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

First up, I have The Vampire Academy. This series was one of the first book series that I read that I was completely hooked on. I don’t actually remember much of this series, so when I eventually reread it might actually feel like I am reading it again for the first time! One of the only things I do remember is that the third book actually destroyed me – it is the first book that I can remember properly sobbing at.

The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary

I read The Road Trip earlier this year and loved it. I know this is going to be one that I will reread over and over again, but I don’t think I will ever capture that need to keep reading to find out what was happening. I read this book in one sitting. It was one of those that I could not part with until I had turned that last page.

Hunted by Meagan Spooner

Hunted again was one that I read really quickly. It was also one of the first new reads that I read when getting back into fantasy books, so it was really exciting for me to be completely absorbed in a fantasy story that I didn’t already know. Retellings are always great too, so it would be great to read this again for the first time.

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare

I feel like the first time that I read the second instalment of The Dark Artifices series, I was a sweet naïve child who didn’t quite know how much Cassandra Clare could hurt her with the words she writes on a page. The second book in this series is probably the only one of the shadowhunters books to make me cry that much.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

This one is a little different for me! I would love to read The Hunger Games for the first time – but also with no knowledge from the films either. I think I read the books before I watched the film – or at least the first book. But going into books two and three, definitely, I had influence from the way the films looked on my imagination. I think that ruined my reading experience a little bit for me. They were such memorable films, especially the sets and the characters, that its hard for it not to impact it in some way.

The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine

The Morganville Vampires is unique on this list, in that I don’t think I will ever read this book series again. And that is mostly because I don’t think I could go in with the same innocence. I think I would be reevaluating the series and picking it a part too much to enjoy it. I would like to read it again for the first time though, without any preconceived notions.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

Out of all of Sarah J Maas’ books I think I have to include this book on this list – although it could have been A Court of Wings and Ruin which makes me cry chapters before the sad moment, purely because I know the sad moment is coming. A Court of Mist and Fury makes it on to this list because it is such a whirl wind of emotions and such a dramatic shift in the story that you can’t really ever go back from that. I think they make the perfect reread books though.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Similarly to A Court of Mist and Fury, once you know the story, you can’t forget it. I would love to read this one for the first time again, because I truly did not see any of the twists or turns coming and I thankfully wasn’t spoiled like I know what a lot of other book bloggers were.

Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I read this book very recently – last month actually. I read it in one day and completely fell in love with the story. Taylor Jenkins Reid is quickly becoming a favourite author of mine. I love their writing style and their ways of telling a story. I’d definitely love to read this one again for the first time.

Lovely War by Julie Berry

Finally we have a book that I don’t really talk about that much but completely and utterly adore. I read this book earlier this year and it has become one of my favourite books of all time. I have never read anything quite like it. It is a love story told from the perspective of Aphrodite and other Gods. It is also based during both world wars, though mainly WWI. I fell in love with the story writing and the characters, and its not very often I say this but I would give anything to read this book again for the first time!

I had fun writing this post today – I always love it when I get an excuse to talk about books that I don’t always talk about that much.

Let me know what books you wish you could read for the first time!

I’d love to read The Hunger Games again for the first time, I’m sure it would still be fun to reread, but wouldn’t be the same with the knowledge of the twists!

I honestly don’t remember much of the story, so I think it would be like brand new to me! The only thing I will never get past is seeing the characters how they are in the film & the setting and stuff

I think my favorite of hers is THE PASSION OF DOLSSA, but I also enjoyed THE SCANDALOUS SISTERHOOD OF PRICKWILLOW PLACE.

Great list! I’m currently listening to the audiobook for Road Trip. I’m not quite halfway through, but I am enjoying it. I have Lovely War on my TBR.

Welcome to my cosy corner of the internet dedicated to anything book-ish related. I am an avid reader, who is constantly battling a reading slump. On here, I share my chaotic, rambling thoughts of all of the books I have read and want to read, offering my unsolicited thoughts. Occasionally, I will share my own work whether that is my poetry or progress updates as I write my own Fantasy novels.
