Top 5 Tuesday

Five Hyped Books I’m Not Interested In

Hello! Today I am taking part in another Top 5 Tuesday. Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, but now it is hosted by Meeghan at Meeghan Reads.

July’s theme is hyped books. Last week was hyped books on my TBR, and the week before was hyped books that I loved! This week, is hyped books I’m not interested in. This one is quite hard for me to think of. I think normally, I just push them out of my mind. I am drawing such a blank with this one it’s going to take me a while to get through this one I think.

I am someone who quite often changes their mind. My reading tastes grow and change and authors I say I won’t read, often I later gravitate towards. The ones I am going to include on this list just don’t pique my interest at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t potentially pick them up in the future!

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff

I honestly have no interest in any of Jay Kristoff’s work. I believe he has some sci-fi novels too and that really isn’t my thing either. His upcoming release just doesn’t appeal to me. It isn’t even out yet and it is one of the biggest hyped up books of this year, but I just don’t quite get it.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

This is one where I just don’t particularly have an interest in. I haven’t heard negative this about it, if anything I have heard quite the opposite. It is never one I remember, or have actively on my mind. The only reason it got mentioned on this post to be honest, was because I scrolled through instagram looking for inspiration. It’s not one I could ever see myself reading, I think I would rather spend the time focusing on books that I am really excited about.

Normal People by Sally Rooney

Similarly, I feel the same way about Normal People by Sally Rooney. My mum has read this one and she said she enjoyed it, countless people online say they enjoyed it, and yet I can’t say that it is one I am interested in. For some reason, nothing hooks me about it. It’s one of those that I hear about a lot, but it kind of passes me in a blur and then I continue on. Never one I really take notice of.

Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard

I didn’t enjoy Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen when I read it a few years ago. I think I got three book in or maybe two and a half, I’m unsure. Either way, I didn’t connect with the book in the slightest, not the characters, not the plan, I just didn’t get it. For that reason, I can’t really imagine myself reading any of her future books.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

I once really wanted to read this book, but I think I have probably outgrown the story, and I am not sure I would really enjoy it now unfortunately. I love seeing other people enjoy it, but I no longer feel like I also need to read the novel.

Once I started scrolling through Instagram, I found it much easier to come up with ideas. Like I said before, in a few months this might all change and maybe I will read them. But right now, I just can’t see myself picking them up!

What is one hyped book that you’re not interested in?

  1. I have no interest in Jay Kristoff’s new book either. I’ve tried a couple of his books in the past but ended up DNFing them or not liking them a lot so I’ve realised they’re just not for me.

    1. Ah I’m sorry to hear that! It’s one of those that I probably would have loved when I was younger but can’t see myself enjoying it now that I’m a little older

  2. Hi Kira!! Apologies, I haven’t been getting your pingbacks 😢 But I will hopefully get some time this weekend to go through and link back to all the posts you’ve done.
I agree with you on Normal People (I honestly don’t get the hype at all for this), and despite enjoying Neveright and Godsgrave, Darkdawn annoyed me so much that I am also off the hype train for EotV.
    Great list, and welcome 💕

    1. Hey! Don’t worry about it!
A lot of people feel this way about Normal People too, which was quite surprising to me after seeing so much about it online. I’m glad you had a good experience with Nevernight and Godsgrave at least!
