While I have been in a bit of a reading slump the last two months (though thankfully I am not out of it), that has not stopped me from hauling many, many books.
Hello! I have a little book haul for you today. By little, I of course mean an absurd amount. I am hoping that this post will inspire me to get my physical TBR down! I recently rearranged my book shelves so that they now are separated into books I have read no books that I haven’t read and I am a little bit overwhelmed.
I haven’t done a book haul since January. I am going to try and include every book that I have bought so far this year (well, since February), but I am not sure if I will get them all!
I have a problem with buying books, so this will be quite a long post and I may have to split this into two parts.
The majority of the books that I have bought this year have been preorders. I tend to preorder books in bulk when Waterstones have a double point offer on. Actually, while I was looking through my orders preparing for this post – I noticed that a couple of the books I was expecting still haven’t shipped to me, even though they have already been published. I just thought they were publishing later on in the year, but nope, Waterstones just haven’t sent me them yet… I need to chase that up! See, writing book hauls can be a good thing.
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas
My first preorder in February was of course, A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas. It feels like so long ago that I got this book and hid away in my room for 36 hours straight and read this book in two sittings. I missed that feeling of devouring a book after waiting for it for so long. I’m probably going to reread this one soon in hopes that I can myself out of a reading slump.
Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco
I got this one after seeing it constantly on Instagram, and I thought after reading A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas that I might want to read this one after. It didn’t happen that way, and I still haven’t actually gotten to it. I think once I am in a fantasy mood again, I will read it just before the sequel comes out later this year.
From Blood and Ash & A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout
The books that I did actually read after A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas. They were the perfect read after that novel. Sometimes after I read one of my highly anticipated books, I will go into a reading slump and I was doing so well with reading so many books I was trying not to go into one. These fantasy novels were the perfect thing to read after because they were fantasy romance that wasn’t really similar to Sarah J Maas but on a similar level.
Legendborn by Tracey Deonn
Similarly to Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco, I bought this one after seeing it all over instagram. It has been hyped up a lot and compared to the Shadowhunters books which I adore so much. It makes me really excited to read this one when I get back into a fantasy mood. I did actually start it right before I went into a reading slump, and I think at the time I was just trying to juggle too many things and books at once to properly focus on this book.
A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown
I went into this book not really knowing what to expect. I had heard a lot about this book without really hearing anything about the content of the book – I just knew a lot of people loved it. I devoured it and it quickly became one of my favourite books. I am so excited for the sequel to come out later this year.
Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare
I actually got two copies of the latest instalment in the Last Hours trilogy! I got the standard hardback, and then I got the tour edition which is honestly beautiful! It has silhouettes of two of the characters in the story on the cover and there aren’t any words on the dust jacket which is also quite rare to find! I really need to get to this book because I am terrified that I am going to see a spoiler or something! Plus I really want to continue my reread for the Shadowhunters series as a whole soon too. I read the first four books in The Mortal Instruments series a few months back and I feel like I will return to them soon.
Bad Habits by Flynn Meaney
Bad Habits is one of those books I wish I had when I was younger – it is unapologetically sex positive and a feminist book and honestly it was a great, fun read! I read it a while back and read it in one sitting. If you want to read my full thoughts, you can check out my review: here.
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Honestly – I only got this one so that I could get free delivery when I got Bad Habits by Flynn Meaney. Did I probably spend more than if I had just paid for delivery? Yes. But I got an extra book! This is another one that I feel like I haven’t been able to go onto instagram in the last year or so and not see this book. I am really excited to get to it, but from my understanding it is quite a heavy read so I will need to ensure that I am in the right mindset for this one!
Malice by Heather Walter
I was waiting on the edge of my seat for this one to arrive, and then when it did… I never read it. I went into a reading slump pretty much as soon as I got this one. I still haven’t read it, but I think it is because I am in a contemporary mood right now (God, I feel like I am saying that constantly on the blog at the moment). I love a good retelling and this one is told from the villains perspective and that sounds amazing.
Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart
I can’t remember who’s blog I was reading, but someone mentioned this book one their most anticipated books of the year post. I immediately preordered it and honestly haven’t really thought about it much since. I just quickly reread the synopsis and it does sound incredibly so I am looking forward to eventually getting to this one!
All the Stars and Teeth & All the Tides of Fate by Adalyn Grace
I got these books when I was in the middle of writing a mermaid story and these just spoke to me. I did start the first book, but I got a little too caught up in my writing to focus on a book. What I did read, I loved. I am really excited to return to this book series soon.
We Hunt the Flame & We Free the Stars by Hassan Faizal
What this post is teaching me, is that if I see a book enough on social media, I will buy it. For a week straight, I saw this constantly and I loved the premise of it so ordered them. I still haven’t gotten to them (shock). I feel like a broken record but I am so excited to read these books!
I am going to cut this post short here, otherwise it is going to get far too long! Have you read any of these on this list? Also let me know your favourite book that you have hauled this year so far!
