Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag

In the two years that I have had this book blog, I have never done this tag. As we have approached June every year I have constantly had the book tag on my brain as something to do, and then I go into a little bit of a book blogging slump. Finally this year I have remembered to do it! And I am not too late!

Best Book You’ve Read so Far in 2021

Off to a great start… there are so many good books I have read this year! It is really hard to pick one.

After thinking about it for a while, I think I am going to pick House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas. I devoured this 800 page book and it made me so excited about fantasy books again. It had been so long, at the time, since I had been completely sucked in and invested in a fantasy book that was not a reread.

Best Sequel You’ve Read so Far in 2021

Without a doubt, it has to be A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas for me! Like so many others, I had waited years for that sequel and I was not disappointed.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

This is also a hard one for me! Especially as I just received a bunch of my preorders! I’ve gone fantasy heavy for the first two question, so I think I am going to go with Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I have seen so many people talking about this book and it makes me so excited to eventually pick it up!

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

One of the ones I am most excited about is Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber. Although, I am so disappointed with the UK cover – I think the US cover is beautiful. I don’t want to cancel my UK preorder though because I got a signed copy, but just know that I prefer the US cover.

Biggest Disappointed

I am going to say Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron. This was by no means a bad book – I still loved it. But, I had just expected more from it. I think I had hyped it up too much for myself, so was disappointed when it finally came to reading it.

Biggest Surprise

Though a popular series, I have to pick The Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J Maas for this one. I have a few posts (you can read them: here) that talk about my experience with the series. I didn’t like it when I read it a few years ago. I couldn’t continue past book 4. I even sold my copies of the books. For some reason at the start of the year, I decided to repurchase the series and give it another go. This time round I loved it and I am so happy I gave it another go!

Favourite New Author (Debut or New to You)

I have actually introduced myself to quite a few new authors this year! One of them being Roseanne A. Brown who has become an auto-buy author for me after reading A Song of Wraiths and Ruin – I cannot wait for whatever she puts out next!

Newest Fictional Crush

I don’t really have fiction crushes, but if I had to pick one it would be Jack from Tweet Cute by Emma Lord. It was such a cute book and cute characters to go along with it.

Newest Favourite Character

Hazel from Lovely War by Julie Berry. I loved her character. She was so innocent and lovely, but she was also fierce and courageous and didn’t let anyone take advantage of her. I loved hearing her story. Lovely War was such a beautiful novel.

A Book That Made You Cry

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas definitely made me cry. The representation of mental health in that novel meant more to me than I had expected going into that novel.

A Book That Made You Happy

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green made me so happy! I found representation in that novel that I had never seen in fiction before and that meant a lot to me. I think I will always look to that book with fondness because of that.

The Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought so Far This Year

There have been so many beautiful books this year! I am a sucker for a beautiful cover so I tend to gravitate towards pretty covers. If I had to pick one it would be the tour edition of Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare.

Books You Need to Read by the End of the Year

So, so many! As I sit here looking at my shelves Malice by Heather Walter and Roman + Jewel by Dana L. Davis are standing out as ones I want to get to soon!

Looking back, even though I have been in a two month reading slump, I have read so many great books already this year! I can’t wait to get back into reading and catch up with myself on all of the wonderful books sitting on my shelf currently.

If you have done this tag, send me the link! I can’t wait to read all of your responses.
