Top 5 Tuesday

Top Five Debut Novels

Hello! I have another Top 5 Tuesday post today. Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, but now it is hosted by Meeghan at Meeghan Reads. Today’s Top Five Tuesday’s topic is top five debut novels, and I am so excited. I have discovered so many debut novels and authors recently, so I am going to have a tough time narrowing this down to just five books.

A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown

The book that instantly came to mind was A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown. I read this recently as part of the Easter Readathon and fell in love with it immediately. The writing style especially blew me away and I will buy anything that Roseanne A. Brown puts out in the future. I need the sequel to this novel right away though!

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary. If you’ve been following me for a while, you will be sick of me talking about how much I loved this book, but it really is a great debut! It was one of my favourite books that I read last year, and I fell in love with her writing style and the characters. I have The Switch on my TBR and her new novel The Road Trip is coming out very soon and I can’t wait to read them.

Tweet Cute by Emma Lord

Tweet Cute by Emma Lord was a recent one that I read, and I was blown away. I got sucked into this novel. It was one of those books that makes you forget you’re reading and not in fact living the same lives as the character. I can’t wait to pick up Emma Lord’s new book You Have a Match. Emma Lord is definitely an author I am going to keep an eye out for in the future.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I don’t think it will shock anyone that The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is on this list. I think this is an incredible book and it was an incredible debut novel. Angie Thomas quickly became an auto-buy author for me. I loved her second novel On the Come Up, and I have Concrete Rose on my TBR that came out earlier on this year.

You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson

You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson was one I read last year and instantly loved. Johnson has become an auto-buy author for me after her debut novel. She has a new book, Rise to the Sun, coming out in July (I believe) and I cannot wait to read it.

Honourable mentions:

  • Under Rose Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall – Gornall hasn’t released another novel, but I absolutely adored this debut novel. It had such a great anxiety representation, and it is still a book I think about years after reading it.
  • Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron – though I went into this novel with my hopes a little too high, I still adored this debut, and I am really looking forward to Kalynn Bayron’s new series that comes out this year.
  • Legendborn by Tracy Deonn – this one is a little bit of a cheeky mention as I am currently reading this one! But, from what I have read so far, I can already tell it is a great debut and I am definitely invested in the series.
  • Caraval by Stephanie Garber – though I still need to catch up and finish this series, Garber’s Caraval was an incredible debut.

I think it’s evident that I could just go on and on and on. I have read a number of debut novels this year and I am really trying to focus on new releases this year and keep up to date with new books, so I am discovering amazing debuts weekly!

What are some of the debut novels that you have read recently or ones that you adore?
