I am not a huge classics reader, but I would love to be. As well as a book lover, I am also a book collector and I loved collecting classic books. I don’t have many, but the ones I do have are beautiful books. I’m going to share the books that I have beautiful editions of, and in the upcoming weeks I will share the standard classics on my tbr.
The Brothers Grimm’s Fairy Tales
I have read a few stories by The Brothers Grimm like ‘Little Redcap’ and ‘Rapunzel’ and a few more. I want to read more of them. At the start of the year, I told myself I would read one a month but I didn’t stick with that. I’m hoping I can read a couple before the end of the year is up.
Hans Christian Andersen
When I was younger, I used to have cassette tapes of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales. I used to listen to them all of the time. I thought initially that I had read loads of them but I’ve really only read a handful of them. I do plan on reading them all, until then I am just going to collect pretty editions.
Jane Austen
I have never read a Jane Austen book. I’m not sure how, but I never got round to reading them. I have the Canterbury Classics edition that has four of her novels in: Sense and Sensibility; Pride and Prejudice; Emma and Northanger Abbey. I plan on buying the novels seperately too but I plan on reading at least one of these soon. I will probably listen to the audiobook while following along with the physical book.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
I’ve read ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ but these editions have other stories in them such as ‘Through the Looking Glass’ which I haven’t read yet. ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ is one of my favourite stories and I’m shocked at myself for not getting to the others sooner.
Oliver Twist
I have read so many books inspired by Charles Dickens’ work. The only book of his I have read is A Christmas Carol. I have wanted to read Oliver Twist for years and I will probably listen to the audiobook and follow along with the physical copy like I plan to with Austen’s work.
MinaLima
I have four of these editions: The Jungle Book; Peter Pan; The Beauty and the Beast and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I think these editions are stunning and I think they might be my favourites. I can’t wait to collect all of the other editions. I am currently reading The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and I am loving all of the illustrations along with the story.
What are your favourite classic editions?
Love your post! I never was much of a classics reader either, but now with social distancing I think I finally have the time and the right mindset to pick up more classics ✨

I’m not a classics fan either but covers can be beautiful. Seen them stacked in Waterstones. There is an Alice in Wonderland one with flamingos on; which I’ve listened to as audiobook but was not keen.

I have read the Alice stories, Through the Looking Glass is good but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first one. Great post!

I definitely want to get into more classics. I’ve always loved Brothers Grimm! They were my favorite as a kid.

I bought the brothers grimm last year too, can’t wait to read it, I think, for a classic, I don’t think the prose will be too inaccessible.
