I am someone who prefers to read the book before I watch the film. This often leads to an ever growing list of films and series that I need to watch. It also means that my TBR is growing too, as often I hear about the film and hear about the book then decide I’d like to read the book first. I have already discussed what books I read in preperation to watch the film but I have yet to watch them which you can check out here.
All The Bright Places
I’m going to start with All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven as I am currently reading it. I first started the book a few years ago but didn’t end up finishing it for some reason. When I saw that there was a film adaptation coming out on Netflix I decided to give the book another shot. I am a little bit behind because the film came out at the beginning of the month, but with my track record I probably won’t get to the film any time soon. I’m really enjoying it so far, and I’ve heard the film is just as good.
Dumplin
I heard about the film when it came out in 2018, and as a big Jennifer Aniston fan I wanted to watch it immediately. But, then I found out it was a book and after reading the synopsis Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy really caught my attention and I thought I’d give the book a go too. However, it’s been two years now and I still don’t even own the book so I’m not sure when I will be able to get to this.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
The first three books in the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs has been sitting on my bookshelves unread for years. In fact, I think it may have just been a triology when I bought the books? I’ve heard such good things about the books and I always plan to read them in October for some reason and then never get round to it. Maybe the isolation months will make me read it? From what I’ve heard, the film was a flop though but it is still one I would like to watch after I have read the series.
Shadow and Bone
Shadow and Bone is a TV Series coming out late 2020 based on The Shadow and Bone Trilogy Series and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I have the Six of Crows duology but not the other series. These are very hyped up book series, that makes me a little nervous to tackle them, but with the TV series coming out I am a little bit more motivated to read them. I also have loads of time before I need to read them in time for the TV series.
Do you like to read the book before you watch the adaptations or do you not care?
I read miss peregrine’s home for peculiar children and I really enjoyed it. Hope you do too!

I always read the book first and it annoys the hell out of everyone around me who wait on me to get finished so we can discuss the movie.
