Book Shelves Tours

Book Series Unfinished on my Shelves

I’d like to start a series of posts where I discuss four unread books on my shelves every Saturday. To start things off I thought I’d start with a favourite of mine: book series.

I am a big fan of book series. I love binge reading series and staying with characters for multiple books. Iwent through a phase of buying a bunch of series and then after that I got into a huge reading slump. So I never got round to them. All of these books I am going to share, I at least own the first book, however a bunch of them I have the full series. Let me know which of these are your favourites and which ones I should get to soon.

Caraval

2020-03-26 13.50.45I was so excited when Caraval by Stephanie Garber came out. I preordered it and I got some bookish items to go along with the book too for preordering. I was so excited about the different designs on the hardcovers, at one point I was going to get all of the designs (my shelves are thankful that I didn’t). I read Caraval in a day and couldn’t wait a year for the second book. Then the second book came out and I had completely forgotten about it. I do now have the second book, but not the third, and I still haven’t read it. I think I’m saving this for a time where I can binge all three books at once; maybe with isolation this could be soon.

Throne of Glass

2020-03-26 13.48.42I have tried reading Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas numerous times and everytime I get half way through book four and then I’ve abandoned it. I do not get the hype for these books. I adore Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses series, so I think I expect similar vibes from this, and Throne of Glass just doesn’t deliver for me. Either way, even though I have all of the books in the series except the last book; I can’t see myself picking this series back up any time soon.

Inkheart

2020-03-26 13.51.20Inkheart is one of my favourite films, so I picked up the trilogy a few years back but for some reason I’ve never been in the mood to read it. I am a huge mood reader and with this series I never seem to be in the mood to pick it up. I think it has the potential to be one of my favourite series of all time. I’m also a little wary that my opinion could be altered because I watched the film first. I guess I’ll just have to wait until I read it to find out.

The Wayward Children

2020-03-26 13.48.07I have always been intrigued by The Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire as it is such a loved series. I first started reading Every Heart a Doorway (book one in the series) a couple of years back and DNFed it a couple of chapters in. I then gave it another go last year and I managed to read the whole thing via audiobook. I did enjoy it, but did not understand the hype at all. All of the books in The Wayward Children series are short, so I expected it to be quite fast paced and to the point. But, I found the story to be slow and not enjoyable. I am, however, still willing to continue with the series as it could be just the main character that I didn’t connect with. The second book in the series, Down Among the Sticks and Bones, follows a different main character, so maybe I will enjoy this one more.

What book series do you have on your shelves that you have yet to read?

  1. I think Queen of Shadows is definitely the hardest book to get through in the Throne of Glass series! I actually got stuck between the 3rd and 4th books for about 2 years before I finished them. I love the rest of the series though! 🙃 Sorry you couldn’t get into it! It’s definitely different that ACOTAR!
