Books That Gave Me a Hangover

Today I want to talk about the books that gave me a hangover after reading them! So many books have left me feeling this way, it is normally while I’m waiting for the next book to come out or at the end of a long series where I’ve become so attached to the characters that I’m not ready to leave them. Rarely, it is a standalone novel, but it has happened! Let’s just get into it.

The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead

2020-02-25 10.15.39This series gave me a hangover twice! The first time was after the third book, Shadow Kiss, I got such a hangover from that book, I couldn’t continue with the rest of the series straight away because it was so bad. I was definitely not over what happened at first. Then after I finally finished the series, I got such a bad hangover I went into a reading slump. I was so invested in the story that I wasn’t ready to read another one just yet.

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

I think I’ve been talked about this a few times, but when I discovered The Mortal Instruments, I reread the first five installments until City of Heavenly Fire came out. I had such a hangover with this series, that the only cure was to reread the same story over and over again.

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas

I had waited so long for this one to come out that when I finally got to read it, I didn’t know what to do with myself afterwards.  We’d finally got the conclusion to Feyre and Rhysand’s story and then I was really excited for Nesta’s story just to find out I will be waiting a few years.

What I Lost by Alexandra Ballard

This book put me in a hangover, simply because I was stunned with it. I had never read a book with such authentic representation for eating disorders.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Fangirl is the first book I’ve read where it is set at university. I adored it! I could really relate to it and I really want to find somemore young adult books that are set in university. It is quite long for a contemporary, nearly 500 pages, so I got more attached to these characters more than I normally do with a standalone contemporary.

Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

2020-03-10 13.42.51I have just finished this book. I have been waiting for this book to come out for such a long time! It did not disappoint. I can’t believe it is only book one of the series and I now have to wait another year for the next book. Cassandra Clare’s books get better and better – the growth of her writing since City of Bones is incredible and incredibly inspiring. As I said, I’ve just finished it and I am kind of in a sitatution now where I don’t know what to do with myself. I have so many other books to read but I’m not sure I am ready to leave these characters just yet. Do I just start reading it all over again? I’m not sure.

  1. Great list…!!!! ACOWAR didn’t give me that much of a hangover but when I read ACOMAF, I couldn’t touch another book for almost a month. I just kept rereading it over and over again.
